A memorial for a trailblazer
I recently attended the memorial for Candace Waterman at the National Cathedral at the end of last month. Candace was a champion for women entrepreneurs. Her advocacy and service across the public and private sectors touched the lives of women-owned businesses and all of those who had the privilege of working with her, myself included.
The service was beautiful and heartbreaking, It was a lovely testament to how many people she has impacted.
It was a sad way to connect with the many people I’ve worked with and continue to work with in the supplier diversity space. We shared a bittersweet laugh about how naïve we were when we started this work.
I started working with women-business owners 20+ years ago. I was half joking but fully naïve when I thought that by now I would have worked myself out of a job.
At the same time, we are still in it, still hopeful. Candace made huge strides for supporting the diverse business owners who want their share of the $20 Trillion US economy.
Thank you, Candace we appreciate your hard work and your legacy.
